Frequently asked questions

How do I get a photo under a specific size limit?
Type the limit you need — 2 MB for an upload form, 500 KB for a web page — and the compressor searches for the highest quality that fits underneath it, rather than making you guess at a quality slider.
Will compressing make my photo look blurry?
Not at moderate settings. JPEG compression discards detail the eye is least sensitive to, and at a 1–2 MB target a phone photo is usually indistinguishable from the original. Push the target very low and you will start to see soft edges and blocking around sharp contrast.
Can I compress a photo without changing its dimensions?
Yes — compression and resizing are separate. Leave the dimensions alone and only the encoding quality changes, so the image still has the same pixel width and height.
Does compressing an image remove its EXIF data?
Re-encoding drops most camera metadata as a side effect, but treat that as a bonus rather than a guarantee. If stripping location and device data is the actual goal, use the dedicated metadata remover, which is built to clear it.
